Action Verbs for Resume Bullet Points

Starting each bullet with a strong verb makes your resume easier to scan and shows what you did. Replace weak openers such as "responsible for", "helped with" or "worked on".
The bullet formula
Action verb + what you did + result (with a number if possible). Example: "Negotiated new freight contracts, cutting shipping costs by 12% ($180K per year)."
Verbs by category
- Leading: led, directed, managed, coached, mentored, supervised, hired
- Creating: built, designed, launched, developed, created, introduced, wrote
- Improving: increased, reduced, improved, streamlined, automated, accelerated, simplified
- Analyzing: analyzed, forecast, identified, measured, evaluated, researched, modeled
- Selling and persuading: negotiated, closed, won, secured, persuaded, grew, expanded
- Helping: resolved, supported, advised, trained, guided, onboarded
- Organizing: coordinated, planned, scheduled, organized, prioritized, delivered
Tips
- Don't start three bullets in a row with the same verb.
- Use past tense for past jobs and present tense for your current job.
- Pair verbs with numbers: time saved, money, percentages, volume.
